Percussionniste canadien d'origine haïtienne basé à Montréal, Daniel est un musicien autodidacte depuis 1984.Il perfectionne son apprentissage de la percussion avec Yaya Diallo et Georges Rodriguez au Canada puis en France avec Cyrille Daumont, Michel Reman et Silvano Michelino. Il s'est fait connaître aux côtés du légendaire artiste québécois Robert Charlebois, de la chanteuse haïtienne Émeline Michel et du compositeur brésilien Paulo Ramos. En 2017, il produit son 1er album solo Anba Tonèl, fruit d’un travail de recherche et création sur la musique antillaise qui a bercé son enfance. Fasciné par l’histoire d’Haïti que son grand-père a écrit et par la musique ancienne et traditionnelle, Daniel nous présente un répertoire de quadrille, contredanse, menuet-kongo et troubadour du 19e siècle! En créant de nouveaux arrangements, cet héritage musical est aussi agrémenté de compositions originales de l’artiste.
Lauréat d'un Global Music Awards en 2018 (USA), l'album a été nominé aux Canadian Folk Music Awards en 2018 et aux Independent Music Awards en 2019 (USA). ?Daniel Bellegarde, Canadian percussionist of Haitian origin born in Montreal is a self-taught musician. After university studies in sociology and communication at the University of Montreal, Daniel perfected his learning of percussion with Yaya Diallo and Georges Rodriguez in Canada then in France with Cyrille Daumont, Michel Reman and Silvano Michelino. He made himself known by touring with the legendary french Canadian artist Robert Charlebois in Europe and Canada, with the famous Haitian singer Émeline Michel in USA and Quebec, Brazilian composer Paulo Ramos in Canada and Cirque du Soleil. A freelance musician, he can be heard on more than 50 albums as a studio musician and on a dozen long and short film soundtracks including Black Soul and Un dimanche à Kigali.
His diverse career led him to the music that rocked his childhood, the music of Haiti and the French West Indies. Inspired by the writings of his paternal grandfather on the history of Haiti at the end of 2017 he produced his first album Anba Tonèl (under the arbor) which is particularly interested in the music of country-dances (square dance), minuets-congo, quadrilles and troubadours music from 19th and 20th century.

Beyond shows, Daniel is dedicated to passing on his knowledge by doing Caribbean percussion workshops in primary and secondary schools with Culture at school program from Quebec Ministry of Education and working in mental health by preparing interactive percussion sessions for people with autism spectrum disorders or people with intellectual disabilities. He is a member of the Quebec Federation of Autism.
Following his trilogy of rural music from Haiti and the French Antilles, Daniel presents his 2nd album Pastourelle, a blend of Caribbean roots with sparkling Portuguese strings and a mythical Celtic-sounding wind. Release scheduled for February 2022!
