Rachel Therrien, trompettiste, compositrice et productrice québécoise travaillant entre New York et Montréal est considérée comme l’une des musiciennes jazz les plus prometteuses de sa génération (Downbeat, All About Jazz, Radio-Canada). Reconnue pour sa signature personnelle et ses influences de jazz traditionnel, d’afro-latin et de rock progressif, Rachel tient une réputation d’artiste de haut calibre, versatile et innovatrice.
 
Rachel Therrien a remporté plusieurs concours et nominations, pour n’en nommer que quelques-uns : Le Grand Prix TD 2015 du Festival International de Jazz de Montréal, le Prix Stingray Rising Star 2016, une nomination au Independent Music Award à New York pour Best Jazz Album Producer en 2018 et le prix LOJIQ à la Bourse RIDEAU 2018 pour développer sa carrière en France.
 
Rachel Therrien a produit 5 albums en son nom et un sixième est en route. Le dernier, VENA, enregistré à Paris en Mai 2019 avec son Quartet Européen avec qui elle tourne en europe depuis 2017 est sorti au printemps 2020 sur l’étiquette Française Bonsaï Music et remporte deux Nominations pour Album Jazz de l’année au Gala de l’ADISQ et au JUNO Awards ainsi que quatres étoiles chez Downbeat. Avec son quintette montréalais, Therrien produit 3 albums sur les étiquettes Multiple Chord Music (CA) et Truth Revolution Records (US) dont Why Don’t You Try (2017), gagne une critique dans Downbeat, Editor’s Pick. En 2016, Rachel sort un premier travail de recherches ethnomusicologiques avec l’album “World” Pensamiento : Proyecto Colombia (2016), enregistré avec 13 musiciens à Bogota en Colombie. Elle prépare maintenant un 6e album, cette fois-ci Latin Jazz avec une vingtaine d’invité(e)s spéciaux enregistré en Janvier 2022 à Montréal, Toronto et New York. Menant son projet solo depuis 2009, Rachel Therrien a présenté ses spectacles dans plusieurs festivals, théâtres et clubs de jazz à travers les Amériques, l’Europe et les Caraïbes. Rachel détient un BAC en interprétation jazz de l’Université de Montréal, un certificat en gestion artistique, un certificat en musique de l’Instituto Superior de Arte à La Havane, Cuba, et participe en 2012 au Banff Center Jazz and Creative Music workshop, ou elle rencontre Dave Douglas et Vijay Iyer. Rachel a aussi travaillé avec plusieurs mentors incluant Ron DiLauro, Elpidio Chappotin,?Laurie Frink, John McNeil, Jonathan Finlayson, Clarence Penn, Ralph Alessi, et plus encore.
 
La talentueuse trompettiste a également performé aux côtés de plusieurs musiciens de renom des scènes jazz et musiques du Monde: Tony Allen, Arturo O’Farrill & Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra - lauréat d’un Grammy, DIVA Jazz Orchestra, Ostara Project, Roberto Fonseca, Michel Legrand, Pen Peplowski, Pedrito Martinez, Claudio Roditi, Ingrid Jensen, Anat Cohen, Miggy Augmented Orchestra, Darcy James Argue & Secret Society, Mariachi Flor de toloache, Yacouba Sissoko, Benito Gonzalez, Irving Acao, Tabou Combo, Skah Shah, Orchestre Septentrional d’Haïti, Klimax, Orquesta Anacaona, pour en nommer que quelques uns. Elle a également travaillé à plusieurs reprises à l’émission télévisée Québécoise Belle et Bum lors de laquelle elle a accompagné de grands artistes tels que Alex Nevsky, Mara Tremblay, Daniel Boucher, Lisa Leblanc, Joseph Edgar, Marie-Josée Lord et le chanteur folk Américain Joseph Arthur.  
 
Finalement, Rachel joue un rôle clé sur la scène jazz à Montréal en contribuant à son essor et en ouvrant les frontières, étant un exemple pour les musiciens émergents et en travaillant pour la communauté du jazz. En 2013, elle fonde «?La série compositeurs Jazz de Montréal?», qui a depuis mené plus de 200 musiciens-compositeurs du Canada et des États-Unis à présenter leur musique originale et à jouer ensemble devant des foules de jeunes durant le festival international de Jazz de Montréal. Elle croit que le jazz est «?une philosophie de conversation entre musiciens de différents milieux par l’entremise de l’improvisation, et qu’en tant que musiciens, nous avons la mission d’assurer la prospérité du genre et d’assurer que notre génération de non-musiciens vivent et apprécient ce langage.?»

Rachel Therrien is a Quebecer trumpetist, composer and producer working between New York and Montreal. Finally, Rachel Therrien plays a key role in the Montreal Jazz scene by promoting it and opening its borders as well as by being an example for emerging musicians and working for the community. In 2013, she founded the “Montreal Jazz Composers Series” that led more than 200 American and Canadian composers to perform their original music and to work together for an audience of old and young during the Montreal International Jazz Festival. She believes that jazz is “a philosophy of conversation between musicians of different backgrounds through improvisation, and as musicians, our mission is to work for the prosperity of the genre through ensuring that our generation of non-musicians is able to live and appreciate this language”.
