Biographie
La pianiste et compositrice Lorraine Desmarais est reconnue au Canada, aux États-Unis, au Mexique, en Europe, en Chine, en Indonésie puis en Afrique pour ses prestations en solo, en trio, avec big band puis avec plusieurs orchestres symphoniques.

Elle compte à son actif douze albums de compositions originales. Trois de ces albums (Trio Lorraine Desmarais, Jazz pour Noël et Big Band ) ont remporté des prix FÉLIX au Gala de l’ADISQ.

L’artiste est récipiendaire de nombreux honneurs dont le premier prix du « Great Jazz Piano American Competition » le prix «  Oscar Peterson » du Festival International de Jazz de Montréal. Elle détient trois Prix Opus décernés par le Conseil Québécois de la Musique. En 2011, l’Université du Québec à Montréal (UQÀM) lui décerne un Doctorat Honoris Causa. En 2013, elle est reçue Membre de l’Ordre du Canada.

Lorraine Desmarais s’est produite en concert avec des artistes de jazz de renommée internationale dont Chick Corea, Oliver Jones, Jacky Terrasson, Joe Lovano, le Big Band Diva de New York, les Brubeck Brothers, Tiger Okoshi et Paquito D’Rivera.

Lorraine Desmarais a également composé plusieurs musiques de film pour l’Office National du Film du Canada en plus de commandes spéciales, nommons la pièce Odalisque composée pour le pianiste Oliver Jones, sa sonate pour flûte et piano; pièce de concours pour l’OSM écrite pour Louise Bessette et Lise Daoust.ainsi que XIII-Thème & Variations, interprété par la violoniste Angèle Dubeau et son orchestre à cordes “La Pieta”.

Sa polyvalence musicale lui a permis de partager la scène avec des artistes du monde classique dont Alain Trudel, Stéphane Tétreault , l’Ensemble Caprice, Marc Hervieux et Marie-Nicole Lemieux. Sur la scène populaire elle a collaboré avec Ariane Moffatt, Michel Rivard, Bruno Pelletier, Sylvain Cossette, Térez Montcalm et Bob Walsh.

Lorraine Desmarais played in concert with artists of worldwide renown such as, Chick Corea, Oliver Jones, Jacky Terrasson, Joe Lovano, The New York Diva Big Band, the Brubeck Brothers, Tiger Okoshi and Paquito D’Rivera.

She wrote several film scores for the National Film Board of Canada. Upon special commission, she wrote a flute and piano sonata featuring duettists Lise Daoust and Louise Bessette and the creation became a competition piece for OSM. Odalisque featured pianist Oliver Jones, and XIII-Theme & Variations, was written upon request for violinist Angèle Dubeau and La Pietà.

Her great versatility has enabled her to work with artists in the classical field such as Alain Trudel, Stéphane Tétreault , l’Ensemble Caprice, Marc Hervieux and Marie-Nicole Lemieux, as well as with artists in the popular music Quebec scene such as Ariane Moffatt, Michel Rivard, Bruno Pelletier, Sylvain Cossette, Térez Montcalm and Bob Walsh.
