Biographie
Devlin & Lacombe is a collaboration between saxophonist Claire Devlin and drummer Valérie Lacombe. A natural outgrowth of our long-standing friendship, this project draws inspiration from avant-garde jazz, especially the tradition of saxophone/drum duos such as John Coltrane & Rashid Ali, Charles Lloyd & Billy Higgins or more recently, Nicole Glover & Nic Cacciopo. The concert will feature a program of original music, blending of improvisation with collaboratively composed sketches. Thematically, the project represents two women, unapologetically making their way in a male dominated field and giving themselves the permission to create without boundaries, exploring different instruments and mediums, while referencing established traditions.
